The Story Expedition: A beginner's uncommon path to creating legendary stories
Hello there!
In the story world, I am Authorette. I've written tons of stories in my life - 2 novels; 1 of them self-published. I've spent over 20 + years studying story creating. I've dissected and broken down all that I have learned into a new story creating approach.
Is your mind filled with story ideas that you love to think about? But what can you do with them? Where do you start in putting together those wonderful ideas? How can you create a story that you'll be proud to have your name as the author of?
The Story Expedition was written for you. Those story ideas are just the beginning. They are energies of your emotions, perceptions, and desires that have to be channeled and structured. Who knows how to do this? Certainly not what is 'out there' as advice, best practices, and reference material. However, those are good jumping-off points as a useful foundation.
Michele Pridgeon, a story creator for most of her life, has been where you are. Taking twenty years of research, studying, reading, and writing to realize 'what-is' was not working for her. Not if she wanted her stories and novels to live forever (ie: The Illiad, Shakespeare...). There had to be a new way to sculpt those story ideas into legendary stories.
Now you, beginner story creator, get to learn the secrets that Michele hooked up with during her time away from mediocre storytelling. The Story Expedition will lead you through the thicket on a clear path to apply what you'll learn on how to expand a story idea into new territory.
New story terminology
Progression - giving your mind a 'map' that guides where a story begins, the true purpose of a middle (called the summit), and an ending where the conclusion is reached.
Word Spark - that which adds energy when you cannot expand your story idea parts into more. It is a raw lightning rod that brings a much-needed perspective on where to move next.
Reimagined story terminology
Story Structure - the framework that a story idea partners within a specific form. Three distinct types: theme, problem/solution, & question/answer. These frameworks work hand-in-hand with the progression.
Character Journey - the framework that sets forth the type of paths in which the audience joins the main character throughout the story. Three distinct types: emotional, transformation, & desire. In addition to aligning with the progression, the character journey types have a dependent or independent relationship to story structure.
